Im all go today peeps!
I get such a high off of being busy, it just perks me up y'know... im not one of those people who likes to have nothing to do, it stresses me out - no joke!! Thats not to say i dont look at some of the mums of pupils at my school (its a private school, so we're talking yummy mummies here :p) They get up, take their kids to school, then maybe do some shopping, meet a friend for lunch, go to yoga or the spa to have their nails/hair done..... and i think "ooh that'd be a nice life" and yes, it certainly would!! but id get SO bored! I need some kindof routine and stimulation to keep me on my toes otherwise i get distracted and restless and those negative thoughts get their chance to jump in. Nah, im much better when i have stuff to do, to keep me occupied....
Not that id say no to maybe having a slightly less stressful life than the life of a teacher, it really is go go go!!
And there were no exceptions today, it was the first proper day back at work after the Easter break, so you can imagine the mayhem!! It was good to jump back in tho... i always get that slightly anxious panicky "ARGH!" moment the night before we go back, i think eveyone does - i used to get it when i was a pupil too! when i start thinking that maybe im not a good teacher, maybe the kids will run riot, maybe ill have forgotten how to teach! but it never happens... i get back into the swing of it as soon as i walk through those school gates and then... i dunno, its just like riding a bicycle! you hop on the seat and start pedalling, it just feels "natural" (till you fall off and graze your knee... haha! but thats another metaphor for another day :p)
So it was busy busy, as usual. I had cover and a full day teaching... but luckily it wasnt one of my crazy stressful days. Plus i like the buzz of the first week back - everyone has stories to tell and i think the kids are genuinely glad to be back too... and its always better starting mid-week (we had training on mon/tues) but my GOD did i find waking up that extra hour earlier this morning hard! i guess thats why they ease us back in with the training days... so its not a total shocker!haha.
And now im home and its all smiles and banter with the mumster (who is still ill) and the roomie (who is still depressed about lack of money and thinking shes gonna have to move home) COME ON PEOPLE!!! meh, they might be glumsters - but im all chipper, cos i KNOW ive had a productive day and that always makes me feel good :)
*i cant promise ill be this perky 2 or 3 weeks into term though*
i am human after all!!!
The one thing i do need to be careful of tho, is how active i am at work... cos i noticed today that i was tired. like not that exhausted/cant stand up tired. But a sort of, phew - that was a busy day! type of tired. Its a nice feeling, cos it means ive done stuff... i cant tell you how stiff and blergh i felt some days in the holidays when i had just sat around on the computer all day :s
BUT i know full well that i "like" that feeling a little too much! and its prime time for my ED to conveniently forget about being less active in the holidays and when i start being MORE active, suddenly it starts making me feel the need to add on more and more to stop feeling lazy. Well screw that! i am NOT lazy and teaching is NOT a sedentary job. So i need to make sure i rest up as much as i can and dont start adding "additional" walking/stretching etc on.... it wont make me feel any better and is a sure-fire way to clemmy-burnout-town.
Luckily i havent been "power-walking" in a while and i am much better at walking at a moderate pace and so now that i can actually enjoy the sunshine and scenery... its much nicer to walk when you dont just power your way through, head down... possessed. Hells no, you need to look around more!
But if i feel myself walking that extra bit further to "feel better about eating x or y" or walking through the rain or cold "cos i did yesterday so i must today", then you have full permission to remind me of this post and tell me to hide my converse and tie myself to the sofa! Cos i want to enjoy the outdoors this summer, i want to spend time in the sunshine, not just race past it in an ED driven frenzy. Thats not cool!!
Summer is for sitting (yes i said SITTING!!!) in the park and getting freckles on your face... Its for going to BBQs and eating whats on offer! its for going to the beach and playing with my doggie. Summer is for good memories, not painful ones....
and This summer is for my Future...

I love your positive thoughts. And I'm like you, I can't stand having nothing to do, it makes me feel lazy. Although I have long lists of things to do and I always end up feeling lazy because I haven't done enough etc.
ReplyDeleteActivity at work is something I have to watch too, it's hard when you don't have a sit down job! x
ReplyDeleteAhhh I can totally relate to the "go go go" way of thinking. It's definitely and ED related behavior for me though, so I have to be careful. Thanks for shedding a little positive light on this topic! xoxo
