Now Im not a forgetful person....
(Despite my ED nurse saying that at my weight i probably forget things all the time...
Gee, thanks lady, you make me sound like an OAP who forgot to put my teeth back in!)
But i can understand that some people find it hard to remember dates, memorable occasions, phone numbers etc... not me. i remember it all. (i think its my abnormally heightened super-organisational skills that i had to hone to deal with my mums VERY clear disorganisation...
have i told the story of how she forgot to pick me up from boarding school on the last day of term cos she thought it was the week after...?!?!
It was not cool... i had to hang out with the teachers in a school devoid of pupils!!!
(which incidentally probably shaped my future career up nicely!)
Anyway, what has been bugging me is that fathers day is this coming sunday... Now normally i wouldnt hesitate to pop a loving little car in the post for my daddio, but this time something made me stall. Ive bought the card, so im sure i will end up sending it... but ive just got this little niggle at the back of my head saying "he forgot your birthday" Which i know is really petty, but i just cant shake that feeling i had when he said he didnt think it was such a big deal... i mean does this man who claims to be my father know me AT ALL???? which is something ive been worrying about lately... My dad hardly knows me at all.
I rarely see him these days and even tho we talk often on the phone. We never really go deeper than the perfunctory how are you, what have you been upto yada yada yada....
So is sending him a father day card abit of a contradiction???
i mean surely you need to EARN yourself the role of a parent. My mum earns hers is spades... i couldnt ask for more. But sometimes i feel that my dad gets an easy ride parenting wise.
i guess my dads just not an elephant!
here ARE some elephants.... the elephant family parade that are popping up around london for charity to save the endangered asian elephant. I think they're kindof cute! they certainly made me smile :-)
there are loads of them around london, but here are the few that i saw on my way back from work at the weekend....

Have anyone else seen any of these elusive elephants??
Id love to see what other ones are out there!

i love the one in covent garden! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the first elephant with the flowers! I don't like Father's or Mother's Day at all. It was so nice of you to get your father I card even if he hasn't treated you the best in the past.
