Today is my mama's bday!
Now you might remember from my special day a few months back but....
i LOVE bday's!
like alot. like obsessively so! It doesnt matter if its my bday, a friends bday, hell even a stranger in the street'll do. But if its you're bday, ill be your friend :-)
So i was a happy bunny today! id saved all my mum's cards and laid them out on the table with her pressies (a special belt she'd been eyeing up ages ago but forgotten about - points to me! some mini hair straighteners for when she'd doing her fairs and a dvd of nowehere boy, the john lennon film) she was pleeeeeased as punch, which made me even happier. I love giving presents, dont get me wrong i like getting presents too!! but theres definitly something about searching around for something that they'd really like and then seeing there face when they open it... they dont call me the present guru for nothin!
But little did i know, that trouble was a brewing. Now mum went off to lunch with her friends and i decided to break out the rusty tins and get my bake on. (i used to bake all the time before ED, i found it such a good way to relax and have fun. making cakes, biscuits, brownies.... AND licking the bowl :-p) but since ED i shied away from it, i still baked on occasion, but it was somehow more regimented, not as fun. I never sampled my own treats, always giving them to other people to have, instead of sharing the enjoyment with them.
Sooooo, in the spirit of my recovery i decided to bake like i used to. getting the kitchen messy. getting stuff in my hair. tasting things!!! and it was fun. even tho i was on my own, i felt like a bit of that freedom was coming back.... sure, i didnt lick the bowl and eat 5 cupcakes... im not gonna lie, im not recovered yet. But when i got mixture on my hands, i licked it off instead of washing them. that is a BIG step for me :-)
and when we have tea, i will have one too... and enjoy it WITH my mum as part of a shared treat. that is what will make the thought special.
Ok, here comes the calamity part! When mum arrived back through the door, i had just finished icing. I emerged from the kitchen, triumphant! to see her carrying a tray of......
yup, you guessed it....
cupcakes.
And not just any old cupcakes, but professionally iced fancy pants cupcakes that her friend (who is a caterer) had made. OOOOOH i felt small carrying my tray of misshapen, smudgy, sticky cupcakes that could have been made by a 3year old :-p
but i laughed..... cos mine may not look as pretty, but they damn well better taste good!
(im gonna do the taste test later, to confirm this) but im sure i must get points for baking with love right?!?!?! SURELY that beats whipped icing and glittery details?!?!
PLUS i used hundreds & thousands dammit!!! And those little coloured balls of fun always win, hands down... its fact! :-)
so obviously im biased, but....
what do you think?!?!?
the good the bad and the ugly?!?!
the purple ones are professionally iced...
....the pink ones are not!!!
The Question is, which tastes best?!?!?!
I believe they say "the proof is in the pudding", so i guess im just gonna have to kick those nasty ED thoughts to the curb and find out for myself! EEK!! fear food alert!
On a serious note tho, I must add that my mum was so pleased with my cupcakes (im thinking more so than her friends!) She knew what a big deal it was for me to get back into the kitchen and bake sweet things again, so that probably meant more as a gesture itself....
I dunno, i just wanted to make her smile :-p
Happy Friday Everyone!

Yours win hands down - yours had multicoloured sprinkles!!!
